The Ondo State Government has urged members of the All Progressives Congress to maintain peace and order during the party’s forthcoming primaries for the National and State Assembly elections.
The government said the APC primaries, scheduled for May 15, 18 and 20, 2026, would be conducted through direct primaries in line with the directive of the party’s National Working Committee.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, the government called on aspirants, party leaders and supporters to ensure a violence-free exercise across the state.
According to the statement, the direct primary option would be adopted in constituencies where no consensus candidate emerges among party stakeholders.
“The Ondo State chapter of the APC remains committed to abiding by the guidelines and internal democratic principles laid down by the national leadership of the party,” the statement said.
The government noted that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was determined to ensure a peaceful and transparent exercise in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
It added that the primaries would serve as a major step towards strengthening the APC ahead of future elections, particularly the 2027 presidential poll.
“The state must continue to remain a model of political maturity and democratic excellence through the conduct of party members,” the statement added.
