Former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress, ending years of political association outside the ruling party in the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Olawale Ijanusi, the Special Assistant on New Media to the Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde.
According to the statement, Mimiko formally defected to the APC in Ondo Town alongside thousands of his supporters during a gathering attended by party leaders, stakeholders and loyalists from across the state.
Receiving the former governor into the party, Babatunde described the development as a major political boost for the APC and the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
He said the former governor’s entrance into the APC would strengthen the party’s structure, unity and grassroots influence across the state.
According to the APC chairman, Mimiko’s political experience and contributions to the development of Ondo State remained remarkable, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, education and infrastructure.
He also commended the former governor for projects executed during his administration, including the Ondo Dome, describing his defection as a positive development for the ruling party.
Babatunde added that Mimiko’s decision to join the APC reflected growing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa.
He further stated that the former governor’s political influence and support base would complement the efforts of the APC-led administration in delivering more democratic dividends to the people of the state.
Speaking at the event, Mimiko appreciated the leadership of the party for receiving him and his supporters into the APC fold.
The former governor pledged to work for the peace, unity and development of Ondo State, while promising to contribute to the growth and success of the APC in the state and across the country.
