Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano State have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly vandalising railway facilities belonging to the Federal Government’s Kaduna-Kano railway project.
The suspect, identified as Sani Ismail, was apprehended in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano following intelligence reports received by the command.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the NSCDC spokesperson in the state, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the suspect was said to be from Kuya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to the statement, preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly removed 11 rail line clips installed on the standard gauge railway project currently under construction.
The NSCDC added that a hammer believed to have been used in dismantling the railway materials was recovered from the suspect during the operation.
The command also disclosed the arrest of two suspected impostors accused of posing as NSCDC volunteers in Kano State.
The suspects, Yusuf Usman and Muhd Auwal, both aged 22 and residents of Kawo Jirga in Nassarawa Local Government Area, were allegedly operating illegally despite not being registered in the corps’ volunteer database.
The statement noted that the duo operated from a facility branded with the NSCDC logo, where they allegedly intimidated and assaulted a social media comedian before their arrest.
It added that investigations had been concluded and legal action would be taken against the suspects.
