Residents of Akotogbo community in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State have been thrown into panic following the discovery of the bodies of two residents in separate locations within a bush in the area.
The victims, identified as Loyinmi Bode and Andrew Friday, were reportedly found dead in separate incidents said to have occurred within one month, raising fresh security concerns among members of the agrarian community.
The development has sparked fear and tension in the area, with residents calling on security agencies and the Ondo State Government to urgently intervene and restore confidence in the community.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had already deployed operatives to the area to maintain peace and prevent further unrest.
“The command is fully aware of these developments and remains resolute in its constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding residents of Ondo State,” Jimoh stated.
He explained that security presence had been strengthened in Akotogbo and neighbouring communities to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
“In response, robust security measures have been emplaced within Akotogbo and its adjoining communities to prevent any breakdown of law and order and ensure sustained public safety,” the police spokesman added.
Jimoh also disclosed that investigations were ongoing, assuring residents that efforts were being intensified to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings and bring them to justice.
