A House of Representatives aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Seun Oluwashina Ajongbolo, has expressed concern over what he described as inconsistencies surrounding the party’s ongoing primary election process.
Ajongbolo, who spoke amid growing uncertainty over the timetable for the APC House of Representatives primaries, lamented the repeated changes in the election date, noting that the exercise was initially scheduled for May 15 before it was later shifted to May 16, marking the second adjustment within a short period.
The aspirant stated that the situation has created confusion among aspirants and supporters, while also disrupting campaign plans, consultations, and other political activities already scheduled in preparation for the primaries.
According to him, the delay in releasing the list of successful aspirants from the party’s screening exercise has further heightened anxiety within the ranks of party faithful and aspirants contesting various positions.
“As aspirants who have committed ourselves to the democratic process of our great party, we believe clarity, transparency, and consistency are essential to maintaining confidence in the process,” Ajongbolo said.
He called on the national leadership of the APC, the Ondo State Governor, and the state executives of the party to openly communicate the direction and activities of the party regarding the forthcoming primaries.
Ajongbolo stressed the need for fairness and equal treatment of all aspirants, urging party leaders to ensure a level playing ground capable of sustaining internal democracy and preserving the confidence of party members across the state.
“Our party remains a strong institution built on progressive ideals. It is important that every aspirant is given equal opportunity within a transparent and credible process that reflects the democratic values of the APC,” he added.
Despite the concerns raised, Ajongbolo reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and expressed confidence in the ability of the party leadership to address the issues in the interest of unity and fairness.
Political observers within the constituency believe the concerns expressed by the aspirant reflect the growing desire among party stakeholders for greater clarity and coordination as the APC moves closer to its primary elections.
