Operatives of the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested four suspected drug traffickers in separate operations across Benin City and adjoining areas of the state.
The agency disclosed that two female suspects were apprehended behind the Oredo Local Government Area Secretariat in Benin City during raids carried out by its operatives.
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, revealed the development on Monday while briefing journalists on the command’s activities over the past week.
According to him, the suspects identified as Eniye Osague, 25, and Osaretin Erabor, 43, were arrested on May 15, 2026, with different quantities of illicit substances.
Ofoyeju explained that Osague was allegedly caught with 272 grams of Scottish loud, while Erabor was found in possession of 914 grams of cannabis sativa.
He further disclosed that another female suspect, Vivian Chukwuma, 38, alongside a male suspect, Osigwe Omogie, 44, were arrested at the Hausa Quarters area in Oluku, Benin City.
The NDLEA boss stated that exhibits recovered from the suspects included 315 grams of cannabis loud, 22 grams of Colorado, 38 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of Tramadol 100mg, 113 grams of cannabis sativa, eight grams of loud, and five grams of tramadol.
He added that three other female suspects and one male suspect were also apprehended during coordinated raids conducted behind the Oredo Local Government Secretariat, Oluku, and Uduwuga community in Uhumwonde Local Government Area.
Ofoyeju noted that the command also intensified its crackdown on illicit drug cultivation by destroying two cannabis plantations in Ago Forest, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.
He said the farms, which measured 0.362021 hectares and 0.229346 hectares respectively, had an estimated yield of 1,388.42 kilograms of cannabis.
According to him, the operation followed credible intelligence reports that led operatives to the hidden plantations deep inside the forest.
The commander, however, said no arrest was made at the scene as the cultivators fled before the arrival of security operatives.
