Several passengers sustained injuries on Monday morning following a multiple-vehicle crash involving a Honda car and two commercial tricycles at Federal Bus Stop along Ipaja Road, Lagos State.
The accident, which occurred at about 8:50 a.m., reportedly caused panic and disrupted traffic flow in the busy axis.
Eyewitnesses said the Honda vehicle, bearing registration number KTU 921 JY, was allegedly speeding when the female driver attempted to swerve to avoid a sweeper employed by the Lagos Waste Management Authority.
In the process, the vehicle was said to have struck the road sweeper before losing control and veering into the opposite lane, where it collided with two tricycles conveying passengers.
The impact left about 10 passengers injured, with victims said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries ranging from minor wounds to more serious conditions.
Emergency response efforts saw the injured first rushed to a nearby private hospital for urgent treatment before some of them were subsequently referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, for further medical care.
At the scene, operatives of the Gowon Divisional Police Headquarters, personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and neighbourhood watch groups were observed working together to rescue victims and restore order to traffic in the area.
The damaged tricycles and the Honda vehicle were later moved off the road to ease vehicular movement along the busy corridor.
Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
