Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have arrested three suspected motorcycle thieves over alleged involvement in stealing and selling stolen motorcycles within the state.

The suspects were apprehended by the Command’s Strike Force Unit following intelligence reports and a tip-off from a resident concerning criminal activities in parts of Sokoto.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the operation was carried out on May 23, 2026, around 10am.

According to him, the police conducted coordinated raids at Kano Road, Runjin Sambo, Gidan Dare, and Gidan Man Ada, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Rufa’i identified one of the suspects as Yahuza Abubakar, a resident of Darna Village in Wamakko Local Government Area.

He explained that during interrogation, Abubakar allegedly confessed to stealing a red Kasea motorcycle and selling it to another suspect.

The police spokesman stated that the confession led detectives to one Alhaji Samaila Aliyu of Gidan Igwai, who was arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle.

He added that investigators later recovered an ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle from Aliyu, while further findings revealed that the stolen red Kasea motorcycle had been sold to Ahmed Abdullahi of the Gawon Nama area.

“Abdullahi was subsequently arrested, and the motorcycle was recovered from him,” the statement added.

Items recovered from the suspects included one red Kasea motorcycle, one ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle, and two master keys believed to have been used in carrying out the theft operations.

Rufa’i said investigations were ongoing to determine whether the suspects were linked to other motorcycle theft syndicates operating across the state.

He added that the suspects remained in police custody and would be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
