The Oyo State Government on Monday demolished a building allegedly used by kidnappers to detain the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons following their rescue from captivity.
The demolished property, a bungalow, was reportedly identified as the location where Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her children, Peter and Paul, were held after their abduction.
Officials of the state Ministry of Lands and Housing, accompanied by security personnel, carried out the demolition as part of efforts to discourage criminal activities and send a strong message to perpetrators.
According to the state government, the action underscores its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
A video that circulated widely on social media showed government-owned bulldozers pulling down the structure, which was completely razed during the operation.
The development followed the successful rescue of the victims by security operatives on Saturday evening.
Mrs John-Paul and her twin sons regained their freedom during a coordinated police operation conducted at about 7:30 p.m., three days after they were abducted.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan, on June 3, an incident that generated widespread concern across the state.
Their rescue was greeted with relief by family members and residents, while security agencies intensified efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction.
Authorities said the demolition was intended not only to dismantle a location allegedly linked to criminal activity but also to serve as a deterrent to individuals using residential properties as hideouts for unlawful operations.
The state government reiterated its determination to work with security agencies to combat kidnapping and ensure the safety of residents across Oyo State.
