Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man, Samson Onilewaji, after he was allegedly found in possession of a suspected human hand, firearms and other items believed to have been stolen during robbery operations.
The suspect was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search exercise along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, according to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi.
Adebisi said police officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six passengers, during which a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the discovery of the exhibits in the suspect’s possession.
Items recovered from Onilewaji included a suspected human right hand, two locally fabricated pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a Point of Sale terminal and five Automated Teller Machine cards.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect confessed to recently robbing three persons of their valuables, adding that the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards were among the items allegedly stolen from the victims.
She said efforts were ongoing to trace the owners of the recovered property for possible identification and return.
According to the statement, investigators have also commenced efforts to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, establish how it came into the suspect’s possession and uncover its intended use.
The command added that investigations had been expanded to identify and arrest other suspected members of the criminal syndicate linked to the suspect.
Adebisi said the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, urged residents to remain security conscious and continue providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies to support crime prevention and enhance public safety across the state.
