Army reshuffles top command, appoints new GOCs, key officers

The Nigerian Army has announced a comprehensive redeployment of senior officers, with new appointments affecting operational commands, training institutions and strategic positions across the service.

The changes, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, were disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.

According to the statement, the postings form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance leadership capacity and improve the Army’s response to evolving security threats nationwide.

The reshuffle covers General Officers Commanding, field commanders, commandants of military institutions and principal staff officers at the Army Headquarters.

Among the appointments, Major General WM Dangana has been named the new General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, succeeding Major General EF Oyinlola.

Major General EI Okoro was also appointed General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.

The Army further appointed Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola assumes office as Acting Military Secretary.

Brigadier General I. Waziri will continue in his role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

In the latest postings aimed at strengthening operational leadership, Brigadier General IB Buhari was deployed as Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K. Rabiu was appointed Commander, Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

The Army also announced the appointment of Major General SA Emmanuel as Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, describing the move as a demonstration of its increasing focus on technology-driven operations and emerging security challenges.

Also affected by the redeployment is Major General O. Adegbe, who has been appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at the Defence Headquarters.

In the area of military training and institutional development, Major General KE Chigbu was named Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.

Other appointments include Major General SO Adejimi as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General FS Etim as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, and Brigadier General U. Ahmad as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

The reshuffle also saw Major General KO Ukandu appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison was named Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.

The Chief of Army Staff charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism and innovation in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of effectively addressing both current and emerging security challenges while safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
