The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man over the alleged abuse of a nine-year-old girl in Bulkachuwa community, Katagum Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement that the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.
According to the police, the incident allegedly occurred on June 14, 2026, after the suspect reportedly lured the child, who was hawking soya bean cakes, to an uncompleted building under the guise of buying from her.
The police said the child was taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Bulkachuwa for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect was taken into custody.
Habib added that investigations were ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that a thorough investigation be carried out and assured the public that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also condemned all forms of violence against children and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and ensuring justice for victims.
The police urged residents to promptly report cases involving children or other vulnerable persons to the appropriate authorities to enable swift intervention.
