The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Sadiya Lawal, over the alleged attempted murder of her husband in Katsina metropolis.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, saying the suspect was taken into custody following a report of a domestic violence incident.

According to the police, the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported at the Central Market Police Division that his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife while he was asleep in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said the victim sustained a serious neck injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Sadiq stated that detectives visited the scene, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife believed to have been used during the incident.

He added that the woman remains in police custody, while investigations are ongoing. She is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

In a separate operation, the command said it successfully repelled an attempted bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area, recovering two motorcycles and a machete abandoned by fleeing suspects.

According to the police, the incident occurred after a distress call alerted officers that a large group of armed men riding motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau–Sheme Road.

The Divisional Police Officer was said to have mobilised operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area.

The operatives reportedly engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes.

Police said the fleeing suspects abandoned two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered at the scene, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those involved.

Reacting to the two incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The police commissioner also urged residents to resolve domestic disagreements through lawful and peaceful means, while encouraging members of the public to continue providing credible information to support security operations against criminal elements.
