71-year-old grandfather crushed to death in Ondo

A 71-year-old man, Dayo Komolafe, was tragically killed by a motorcycle ridden by 23-year-old Temi Oluwole in Akure, Ondo State.

Oluwole is accused of driving recklessly and dangerously on a public highway, leading to the fatal incident. He has been charged with murder and appeared before an Akure Magistrate Court.

According to Prosecutor Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, the alleged offense occurred on August 27, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. at Leo Junction, Oyemekun Road, Akure. The prosecution claims Oluwole’s disregard for other road users resulted in Komolafe’s death right in front of his home.

Oluwole faces a three-count charge including reckless driving, causing death, and driving without a valid license. Akintimehin noted that Oluwole, riding a blue TVS motorcycle with plate number FAB117VO, allegedly committed the offense in violation of Sections 18(c), 7(1), and 36(1)(P) of the Road Traffic Act of Ondo State.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defense counsel, Mr. Kehinde Akintelure, requested bail on liberal terms, noting ongoing discussions between the families about an out-of-court settlement.

Magistrate Kolawole Aro granted Oluwole bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety of similar value.
