Non-signing of death warrants by some governors increases ritual killings – Group

The Muslim Ummah,a renowned Ilorin-based Muslim body with members in the South West has blamed non signing of death warrants by many of the governors since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999, as one of the major reasons why ritual killings are on the rise, particularly among the youths in the country today.

The Amir of Muslim Ummah, Alh Abdur-Razzaq Abdulwahhab Al-Ameen Aladodo who said this at a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday on the sideline of the ritual killing of Hafsah Yetunde Lawal by the suspected AbdulRahman Bello condemned the murder, and disowned AbdulRahman Bello, explaining that he’s not an Alfa.

The Amir urged all the state governors, particularly Kwara state to sign death warrant in order to drastically reduce cold-blood murder and ritual killings in the country.

According to him,”it’s a breach of trust for the governors not to sign death warrant, the governors supposed to know that anyone convicted by court should be executed. The governors are implored to sign the death warrant. Its unfortunate that since inception of democracy in 1999,only two governors signed death warrants, the late governor of Kogi state late, Alhaji Abubabar Audu and former governor of Edo state Comrade Adams Oshiomole. This is one of the major reasons ritual killings have not reduced in Nigeria.

He added that,”by not signing the death warrant, the governors are simply lacking in their responsibility, they are the ones causing many people to escape death.

“So many people have been convicted but governors will later use prerogative of mercy to release them after they have been convicted, that’s why ritual killings have not reduced.

“I urge all the state governors particularly that of Kwara to expeditiously sign death warrant of any convicted felon or death- row inmates.’he said.

The Amir of Muslim Ummah also noted that it’s unfortunate that,”the so called later day scholars have abandoned the inherited pristine Islamic values and resorted to diabolical practices and falsely labelled it Islamic”

“The Harakatul-Islamiyyah a.k.a The Muslim Ummah based in ilorin condemns in the strongest term the horrific, savagery and cruel butchery of Hafsah Lawal ,as inhuman, unacceptable and un-islamic.”he stressed.

He noted that “the recent diabolical crime committed by one AbdulRahman Bello is one of the crimes alluded to the above

“I make bold to say that the accused AbdulRahman Bello is not an Islamic cleric (Alfa)as being touted in the print and electronic media, granted that he attended Islamic schools (Madrsah),he took after some Ulamau suui(evil scholars)who specialize in using human parts for money rituals and other diabolical means.”he stressed

The Muslim body also called for,”fuller investigation, and diligent prosecution of the accused persons,it should be carried out no matter whose ox is gored.

“The government is urged to desist from the misuse of power of prerogative of mercy in favour of convicts on political grounds’:Amir Aladodo said
