The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Chidiebere Mbene, in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old boy, Nwokedi Michael Somtochukwu, in Unubi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Friday, April 18, 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect allegedly assaulted the deceased’s elder sister before killing the teenager and fleeing the scene.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the Nnewi community for their cooperation in apprehending the suspect,” the statement said.
The police noted that community involvement played a crucial role in the swift arrest and underscored the importance of public partnership in crime prevention and resolution.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for thorough investigation.
CP Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to community policing and emphasized the need for continued public collaboration to identify and apprehend criminal elements across the state.
