Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has firmly denied harboring any presidential ambitions for the 2027 elections, stating that he will not contest against President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, Bello dismissed a circulating video of his 2022 campaign rally, which some interpreted as the beginning of a new presidential bid.
“We categorically state that our principal, Bello, has no interest in the 2027 presidential race,” the statement read.
“He remains firmly committed to the re-election of President Tinubu.”
Ohiare criticized the video’s reemergence, describing it as a deliberate act of misinformation by individuals seeking to discredit the former governor.
“The rally in question took place in 2022, a fact clearly indicated on the banners shown in the footage,” he said. “It is unfortunate that certain elements are attempting to portray it as a recent event to stir unnecessary controversy.”
He further praised President Tinubu’s administration, noting that it has made significant strides despite global challenges, and emphasized that Tinubu deserves the continued support of Nigerians.
“This attempt to recycle old footage and distort its context reflects the desperation of mischief-makers determined to create division where none exists,” Ohiare added.
He urged the public to disregard the misleading post, which he called “a senseless fabrication,” and cautioned against those who spread falsehoods to serve political agendas.
