JUST IN: Wike withdraws from PDP agreements, vows to fight for justice amid party crisis

In the midst of ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has announced his withdrawal from all previous agreements made within the party, citing persistent dishonesty and lack of trust among key stakeholders as the root cause of the crisis.

Wike traced the party’s challenges to post-2023 general election developments, describing a cycle of betrayal and non-compliance with agreed terms as responsible for destabilizing the PDP.

Efforts to restore harmony, he noted, included a series of high-profile meetings involving key party figures, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Umaru Fintri, Governor Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and himself.

According to Wike, he confronted Governor Makinde at a Lagos meeting, holding him accountable for the party’s troubles due to his failure to honor agreements.

A subsequent gathering at Saraki’s guest house in Abuja saw intense discussions, where Wike also criticized Governor Bala Mohammed for reneging on commitments under the guise of his role as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

The meetings produced resolutions intended to stabilize the party, including maintaining Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court ruling, the withdrawal of all legal actions concerning Rivers State by the party’s National Legal Adviser, and the immediate cessation of a State of Emergency suit. Additionally, all parties agreed not to deviate from these accords.

Despite these efforts, Wike expressed deep disappointment over what he described as flagrant violations of these agreements.

He accused Governor Makinde and Peter Mba of Enugu State of manipulating party mechanisms by convening a meeting of South-East leaders to push for the adoption of Ude Okoye as National Secretary, a move Wike firmly rejected.

Further breaches cited by Wike included attempts to install the Deputy National Secretary as acting National Secretary, contrary to prior agreements, and conflicting communications over the confirmation of the PDP’s governorship candidate in the upcoming Anambra State elections.

Wike also pointed to the disruption of a PDP zonal elective congress in Jos on May 24, 2025, due to procedural irregularities linked to unauthorized party documentation, which led to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refusing to attend.

Wike lamented the betrayal from colleagues, emphasizing his long-standing dedication to the PDP since 1998 and his instrumental role in the electoral successes of several governors, without seeking personal gains.

Frustrated by the alleged ongoing manipulations, particularly concerning the North-Central zonal elections, Wike declared his decision to withdraw from all prior agreements and affirmed his commitment to continue fighting until justice is achieved within the party.
