Nigerians intending to perform the 2025 Hajj without the required permit face strict penalties including deportation, a 10-year entry ban, and a fine of 100,000 Saudi riyals, according to Modibbo Umar, charge d’affaires at the Nigerian embassy in Riyadh.
Mr. Umar issued the warning during the 2025 Hajj Pre-Arafat Stakeholders’ Meeting organized by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in Mecca on Monday.
He emphasized that Saudi authorities have significantly increased enforcement measures this year, doubling the previous fine of 50,000 riyals imposed in 2024 for unauthorized pilgrimage.
“We should let our people know that the Saudi authorities have sent very strong signals that Hajj without a permit will not be condoned,” Mr. Umar said. “The message this year is clear: a 100,000 riyals fine, deportation, and a 10-year ban from the kingdom.”
He urged Nigerian pilgrims to respect Saudi laws and comply fully with all regulations to avoid severe consequences.
In addition to the warning, Mr. Umar encouraged pilgrims to use the spiritual occasion to pray for Nigeria and for global peace.
“May we have a world that is far better than what it is now for our children and grandchildren,” he added.
NAHCON chairman Abdullahi Saleh reiterated that the purpose of the stakeholders’ meeting was to ensure Nigerian pilgrims receive the proper support, services, and spiritual guidance they deserve during the Hajj.
