Rivers Crisis: Fubara meets Wike again in push for reconciliation

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has once again met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as part of ongoing efforts to resolve the political crisis in the state.

According to information obtained by DAILY POST, Fubara visited Wike at his Abuja residence on Monday.

A source familiar with the meeting, who requested anonymity, confirmed the visit but dismissed a circulating photo of the pair as outdated.

“The photograph is old, but I can confirm that he (Fubara) met the Minister this past Monday,” the source said.

The meeting is believed to be part of Fubara’s broader attempts to mend his relationship with Wike and engage key political stakeholders in Rivers State.

Fubara’s troubles began soon after he assumed office in 2023.

A power struggle emerged between him and his predecessor, Wike, over control of the state’s political machinery. The conflict extended to the State House of Assembly, resulting in a split within the legislative body.

On March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara for six months and declared a state of emergency in Rivers State to prevent the escalating political tension from becoming a security crisis.

The President appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator during the period, following threats from Niger Delta militants to sabotage oil installations in the region.

Since his suspension, Fubara has held reconciliation talks with both President Tinubu—in London and Lagos—and Wike.

Wike has publicly referred to Fubara as “his son” and urged him to meet with other political figures in the state to fully resolve the impasse.

However, there have been no confirmed reports that Fubara has engaged other stakeholders, even as his suspension approaches its third month.
