It was a memorable celebration on Saturday as the 1975 alumni set of Akoko Anglican Grammar School (AKOGRAMS), Arigidi Akoko, marked their golden jubilee with pomp and pride.
The grand event, held on the school premises, was graced by notable members of the 1975 set, including former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, alongside distinguished professionals and industry leaders.
In his address, Aregbesola expressed deep joy over the progress the school has made over the years and encouraged fellow alumni to remain resilient in the face of life’s challenges.
“Looking back over the past 50 years, I cherish the time spent in this school as one of the most defining periods of my life,” Aregbesola said. “Even though we may not see each other often, memories of our shared journey remain eternal in my heart.
“Many of us may be dealing with personal trials—be it health issues, finances, or family concerns.
But I urge you to remember that such challenges are temporary. What matters most is the courage we show in overcoming them.”
He also called on members to continue supporting the school’s development, describing AKOGRAMS as a collective legacy and source of pride.
Earlier, the President of the 1975 set, Mr. Olaitan Ayeni, in a speech delivered by the National President of AKOGRAMS Old Students Association, Mrs. Mojisola Ajayi, praised the achievements of the set.
“To the glory of God, our set has produced distinguished individuals—professors, doctors, PhD holders, top civil servants, teachers, politicians, and entrepreneurs,” he noted.
Ayeni appreciated the members’ contributions toward the ongoing construction of a standard multi-purpose sports pitch designed for basketball, volleyball, and table tennis.
“Although the project is 80% completed, we still need about ₦4 million to finish the fencing.
So far, we’ve spent ₦13,529,000,” he disclosed, calling on members for further support.
He also paid tribute to late members of the class, praying for peace upon their souls and comfort for their families.
The set’s Secretary, Mr. Kayode Oyedele, advised current students to embrace hard work and dedication to achieve academic and career success.
The three-day celebration featured various activities, including a health talk, medical check-up, basketball match, anniversary ceremony, and a dinner night.
