Kaduna State Police Command has uncovered a cache of explosives, ammunition, and firearms at a scrap facility in the Kudandan Industrial Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.

The discovery, made on Friday, was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan.

According to the statement, the police acted on credible intelligence indicating the presence of suspicious items—believed to be unexploded ordnances—at a scavenger company operating in the area.

The items were reportedly transported as part of a consignment of scrap from Borno State.

“Upon receipt of the information, a specialised team from the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, led by the Commander, was immediately deployed to the scene,” Hassan said. “After a comprehensive assessment, the team confirmed the items to be unexploded military-grade bombs.”

The explosives were safely evacuated to a secure location, where they are scheduled to be safely destroyed in accordance with standard safety protocols.

In addition to the ordnances, police recovered a locally-made revolver pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, three live cartridges, and other assorted ammunition.

Following the discovery, Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu ordered the immediate sealing of the premises to allow for a full sweep by the EOD unit to rule out the presence of any additional hazardous materials.

The Commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to public safety and urged citizens to continue sharing timely and useful information with security agencies.

He also issued a stern warning to all scrap dealers and scavenger depots across the state, instructing them to cease, with immediate effect, the acceptance of waste materials originating from conflict-ridden regions, particularly those in the North-East.
