The Enugu State Police Command says its renewed clampdown on violent crimes has led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, a motorcycle and other exhibits in separate operations across the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested one 28-year-old Okafor Chukwuka on August 20. A locally made double-barrel gun was recovered from him.

Preliminary investigations, according to police, linked him to a robbery in Nara Unataeze, Nkanu East Local Government Area, two weeks earlier, where a motorcycle was snatched at gunpoint.

Similarly, two men, identified as Emeka Odo, 45, and Ugochukwu Eze, 35, were arrested on August 18 at Obollo-Afor in Udenu LGA. Mr Ndukwe said Odo confessed to robbing a motorcyclist on August 7 alongside an accomplice still at large. He later contacted Eze to purchase the stolen motorcycle.

Items recovered from the suspects included one cut-to-size locally made gun, a live cartridge, a battle axe, a cutlass, three solar panels, a solar battery, a solar light and an object suspected to be charm.

Mr Ndukwe added that the suspects would be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, assured residents of the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminals and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security efforts.
