Uber driver stabbed to death in Abuja

Panic has gripped residents of Takushara Village in the Kabusa axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after suspected hoodlums stabbed a 38-year-old Uber driver, Mr. Vincent Bala, to death during a late-night raid.

The assailants, who reportedly stormed the community in the early hours of Sunday, were said to have mistaken Bala for the manager of a nearby bakery, claiming that was their original target.

Witnesses recounted that the gang went from house to house, dispossessing residents of cash, mobile phones, and other valuables before attacking Bala.

“He was not the person they were looking for, but they still attacked him. It was a senseless killing,” a resident said.

Bala, who allegedly resisted the hoodlums’ threats, was stabbed multiple times. Neighbours rushed him to Garki General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival. His remains have since been deposited in the morgue.

The killing has heightened tension in the community, where residents say they have suffered repeated attacks without adequate response from security agencies.

“We can’t sleep with our eyes closed anymore. If the government doesn’t act quickly, more innocent people will suffer,” another villager lamented.

Police authorities yesterday confirmed the incident, adding that investigations had commenced to track down the perpetrators. Security operatives have also intensified patrols around the area.

The incident adds to rising concerns over insecurity in Abuja’s satellite towns, where residents continue to grapple with frequent cases of robbery, kidnapping, and violent attacks.
