Six rescued as two-storey building collapses in Lagos

Six people were rescued on Wednesday evening after a two-storey building collapsed on Modupeola Street, Mangoro, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., came barely two weeks after four lives were lost when a three-storey structure collapsed on Bornu Street, Ebute Meta.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other first responders swiftly moved to the site.

According to him, six people were pulled out of the rubble — five of them taken to a nearby private hospital, while one trapped victim, who sustained fractures and bruises, was taken by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s surgical emergency unit. He was said to be in stable condition.

“The cause of the incident was not immediately known. Government officials have launched an investigation,” Omotoso stated.

The incident has once again raised concerns about frequent cases of building collapse in Lagos.

In July, four people narrowly escaped death after a three-storey building caved in along Adeniji-Adele Road, Isale Eko.
