Operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service have recovered the body of a yet-to-be-identified man suspected to be mentally unstable from the Asa River in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the agency’s spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, the incident occurred around 11:06 a.m. along Emir’s Road in Ilorin.
Adekunle said the victim was found floating in the river, adding that the cause of the drowning could not be immediately determined.
The statement further noted that the recovered body had been handed over to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment for further action.
Expressing sympathy over the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, cautioned residents to be vigilant and avoid unnecessary movements around riverbanks and other water bodies to prevent similar tragedies.
