The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has assigned a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police to lead an independent investigation into the killing of three persons allegedly shot by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage after the operatives reportedly stormed a community in the state, opened fire on residents, and removed the bodies of the deceased from the scene.
According to the Osun State Police Command, the victims were identified as Ibrahim Oyebamiji, 26; Sefiu Oyebamiji; and Abiola Olutayo.
Three others — Adeagbo Kadijat, 22; Oke-Ila Oyebamiji, 60; and Fayomi Toheeb, 19 — sustained gunshot wounds.
The police confirmed that five Amotekun operatives have been arrested in connection with the killings, while the Corps’ Commander, identified as Omoyele, has reportedly ignored repeated police invitations to explain his role.
Although the leadership of Osun Amotekun admitted that three persons lost their lives, it maintained that the operatives acted in self-defence during a confrontation with hoodlums allegedly attempting to snatch their rifles.
The special police team, now led by the retired AIG, is expected to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings and ensure accountability for those found culpable.
