The Jigawa State Police Command has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that armed bandits invaded Dutse, the state capital, describing the viral video as misleading and untrue.
In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, explained that investigations revealed the individuals seen riding motorcycles with weapons in the footage were not criminals but members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation—hunters and vigilantes from Bauchi State.
According to Adam, the group was returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area, when they were filmed.
He noted that the men carried only traditional weapons such as Dane guns, bows, and arrows, contrary to online claims of sophisticated firearms.
“The social media reports are entirely false and mischievous,” Adam said, warning that such misinformation could cause unnecessary panic among residents.
He urged the public to disregard the video and maintain calm, adding that Jigawa remains one of the most peaceful states in the North-West region.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, also assured residents of their safety and encouraged them to continue their normal activities without fear.
“Jigawa is safe,” he stated. “We appreciate the cooperation of residents and urge them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”
The command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while sustaining the peace for which the state is known.
