Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has alleged that human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, does not possess a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
Jimoh made the disclosure on Wednesday while featuring on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme monitored in Lagos.
The police commissioner said Sowore was declared wanted for allegedly plotting to incite public unrest and obstruct major roads in the state.
According to him, Sowore was posted to Adamawa State for the mandatory one-year national service but failed to participate.
“I want to make it abundantly clear that Sowore doesn’t have an NYSC certificate because of punitive reasons. He was posted to Adamawa and was evasive. He never did his service,” Jimoh said.
The police boss questioned Sowore’s moral standing to mobilise the public for protests when he failed to fulfil a basic civic obligation.
“So, such a person who is not even qualified to bear the NYSC certificate of our great country will now be coming out to disturb the peace of Lagos? We will not allow it,” he added.
