Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State for allegedly being in possession of live ammunition suspected to be meant for bandits.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday.
Makama said the woman, whose identity was not revealed, was intercepted on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Tsafe–Gusau highway.
He said the ammunition was concealed in the suspect’s luggage while she was travelling through the area.
“The suspect, believed to be from Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, was found with live ammunition suspected to be destined for bandits,” Makama wrote.
Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area, Malam Garba Shehu, confirmed the arrest, describing it as a major success in the ongoing fight against arms smuggling and banditry in the state.
He commended the NDLEA operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, noting that the arrest had prevented dangerous weapons from getting into the hands of criminals.
“The NDLEA deserves commendation for their alertness and dedication.
This operation has averted what could have been another round of attacks in our communities,” Shehu said.
The suspect has since been handed over to security authorities for further investigation as efforts continue to trace the source and destination of the ammunition.
