A 40-year-old woman, Mrs. Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly attempting to traffic three underage children at Diko Junction in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement on Wednesday, said Chukwumezie, a resident of Nyanya, Abuja, was intercepted by operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division around 5pm on November 5, while in possession of the children aged between two and three.
He said the officers, who were on duty at the Diko Junction checkpoint, became suspicious of her movement and promptly arrested her.
According to Abiodun, the suspect claimed she took the children—identified as Kazeem, Ya’amadu and Idris—from Lambata and was taking them to Abuja “for care.”
He said the children’s parents have been traced and informed of the development, while investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In a separate incident, the Command also arrested two men—Halilu Haggai Haruna and Maiyaki Ayuba—for allegedly impersonating operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to rob and extort a motorcyclist in Minna.
Abiodun said the suspects, on October 30, accosted their victim around the Shiroro Roundabout area of Minna, accused him of being a fraudster, and forcefully seized his motorcycle after extorting ₦400,000 from him.
He added that the duo were later traced and arrested on November 2 at Sauka-Kahuta area of Minna following intelligence gathering.
The police spokesman assured that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
