The Ondo State Police Command has arrested suspects allegedly involved in the forgery and illegal issuance of motorcycle (Okada) emblems purportedly issued by the state government in Owo Local Government Area.
Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, adding that the arrest followed a report by the Branch Chairman of the Okada Riders Association in Owo, who discovered a forged emblem in the possession of a commercial motorcyclist.
According to the statement, discreet investigation revealed that the fake emblem was produced and issued by one Ojo Agbi, the Unit Chairman of Uso, and another suspect currently under investigation.
Operatives of the Command’s CP Monitoring Unit, acting on intelligence, arrested the principal suspect, who reportedly confessed to the crime and is cooperating with investigators to track down his accomplice and others linked to the syndicate.
Further findings showed that the suspects had been producing and selling the counterfeit emblems for some time, distributing them to unsuspecting commercial motorcyclists and even known criminal elements in a bid to enrich themselves.
The police said the illegal operation not only defrauded innocent riders but also posed a threat to public safety, as the fake emblems provided cover for criminals to operate freely.
Commissioner of Police in the state commended the swift response of the CP Monitoring Unit, reiterating the Command’s resolve to expose and dismantle all forms of criminal enterprise.
He assured that the police would continue to pursue criminals no matter where they hide, adding that the Command remains committed to transparency, accountability, and proactive policing.
The CP also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and support in improving policing effectiveness nationwide.
He urged transport unions and residents to obey the law, avoid any form of illegality, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
