Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspected internet fraudster for allegedly killing his friend during a dispute over a $1,000 transaction in the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 21, 2026, at Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Bright Edafe, said the suspect, identified as Oghenegare, was currently being held at the state police headquarters in Asaba.
Edafe explained that the suspect and the deceased, identified simply as Courage, were friends and were both involved in internet fraud before an argument broke out between them over the transaction.
According to him, the disagreement degenerated into a physical confrontation, during which the suspect allegedly struck the deceased on the head, leading to his death.
The police spokesman expressed concern over the rising number of murder cases in the state, attributing many of them to hot temper, substance abuse and disputes that could have been amicably resolved.
He urged residents, particularly youths, to seek peaceful means of settling disagreements and avoid actions that could result in irreversible consequences.
Meanwhile, the suspect, in a video circulating online, admitted that the deceased was his childhood friend, alleging that the victim had excluded him from the transaction process, which led to the fatal dispute.
Police authorities said investigations into the incident were ongoing, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
