‍Ibadan—The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two men in connection with the killing of a 62-year-old woman in Ori-Apata Oderemi, Ido Local ‌Government Area.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, identified the suspects as Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40, both residents of the community. The pair are currently held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ibadan, assisting investigators.

Ayanlade said the deceased was discovered by a Good Samaritan lying in a pool of blood with a deep neck wound along a bush path in the area.

Preliminary findings indicate that the body had been there for about seven days before being reported.

“The command wishes to inform the public of a suspected murder at Ori-Apata Oderemi. Upon receiving the report, detectives visited the scene and evacuated the body to Adeoyo General Hospital morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The area has been sealed, and forensic teams are gathering evidence to identify and prosecute the perpetrators,” he stated.

The police added that the case has been formally transferred to the state CID to ensure a thorough investigation. Investigators are also pursuing other potential accomplices linked to the crime.

Ayanlade further said that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, accompanied by a high-level state government team, visited the community to assess the situation and console the victim’s family.

The CP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate security deployments to maintain peace.

The command appealed to residents and the bereaved family to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands.

Joint patrols by police and other security agencies have been intensified across Ori-Apata and surrounding communities to ensure public safety.

The police assured the public that all efforts would be made to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the culprits to justice.

Residents were urged to provide credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
