Traders in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State have again suffered heavy losses following a fire outbreak that razed the Fika Main Market on Monday, destroying shops and goods worth millions of naira.
The blaze, which reportedly started in the early hours of the day, engulfed large sections of the market, leaving several business owners devastated.
Eyewitnesses said the inferno consumed goods and critical structures before it was brought under control.
The incident has disrupted commercial activities in the area, with many traders counting their losses and expressing uncertainty over how to rebuild their livelihoods.
The latest disaster occurred shortly after authorities reviewed intervention measures for victims of previous fire incidents in Bukarti and other communities in Yunusari, Geidam and Yusufari local government areas.
Confirming the development, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency commiserated with affected traders and assured them of government support.
In a statement, the agency said the state government stood in solidarity with the victims and would provide assistance within the limits of available resources.
SEMA also called on residents across the state to remain vigilant, prioritise safety measures and promptly report emergencies to relevant authorities to prevent further losses.
