A 59-year-old blind man, Julius Nyikwa, has been taken into police custody in Niger State over allegations that he sexually assaulted his 10-year-old niece, who lives in the same family compound.
Sources told Arewa PUNCH that the incident occurred on February 16, 2026, at Keteren-Gwari, Minna, when the girl was reportedly lured into Nyikwa’s room.
The suspect’s wife is the victim’s maternal aunt, and both families reside within the same compound.
Police investigations revealed that Nyikwa allegedly engaged in repeated acts of sexual abuse against the child.
The matter came to light when the victim’s grandmother raised an alarm during the latest encounter, prompting neighbours to intervene and the suspect’s arrest.
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest, stating that the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigations. He assured that the suspect would soon face prosecution in court.
