Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man and recovered a locally made firearm in a major security operation in Akure.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Ayodeji Patrick ‘M’, was apprehended on March 24, 2026, along Oda Road following credible intelligence. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, which authorities described as a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal firearms in the state.

The police said Patrick is currently in custody and has provided useful information to investigators. Efforts are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm, identify any potential links to criminal networks, and trace possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, praised the professionalism of the officers involved and expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his support and operational guidance.

The Command warned residents that anyone found in possession of illegal firearms or involved in criminal activities would be prosecuted. It also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help maintain safety in the state.

The Ondo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and pledged to continue intensified operations against all forms of criminality.
