A 47-year-old tenant, Temitope Elegbede, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Badagry, Lagos, over the alleged assault of his landlady.
Elegbede, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing charges bordering on assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the incident occurred on April 7, 2026, at about 9:20 a.m. on Panusa Ajobuwe Street, Ilogbo, Badagry.
Ekpo alleged that the defendant physically attacked his landlady, identified as Oluwabunmi Otokiti, by grabbing her neck inside her residence during an altercation.
He further informed the court that the defendant’s conduct was capable of disturbing public peace, leading to his subsequent arrest and handover to the police for prosecution.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate stipulated that one of the sureties must be a recognised community leader.
The case was adjourned till May 14, 2026, for mention.
