Dr Shehu Mohammed, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has called on Nigerians with integrity to join the special marshal group to reduce road crashes in the country.
Mohammed made the call at the 2026 Special Marshals’ National Retreat held on Wednesday in Akure with the theme: Repositioning Special Marshals For Professionalism, Strategic Partnership And Enhanced Service Delivery.
The corps marshal, represented by Mr Abiodun Akinlade, Deputy Corps Marshal in-charge of Training, Abuja, said the integrity of the special marshalls would enhance the services of the corps on the highways.
Mohammed, who said the retreat was a strategic platform for reflection, renewal and repositioning, explained that the contributions of special marshals to road safety administration across the nation remained invaluable.
“The FRSC will continue to rely heavily on the commitment, professionalism and volunteers series of special marshals.
“It’s our collectives responsibility to involve in emergency challenges and expectations in road traffic management.
“As you all know, road safety is a shared responsibility and the complexity of modern traffic system requires stronger collaboration, professionalism and a renewed sense of purpose.
“Our special marshal must not only compliment the corps but also stand as ambassadors of discipline, integrity and service excellent within various communities,” he said.
In his opening remarks, Dr Adaji Usman, National Coordinator, Special Marshals, commended the corps marshal for his belief in the ability of special marshalls to compliment the regular marshals.
Usman, who said a significant number of dedicated special marshalls had lost their lives across the country, charged the members to take their health seriously by undergoing regular medical check up to remain fit for service.
“Our integrity as special marshals is paramount. We cannot be called men and women of integrity if our character does not reflect that title. We must all raise our standards,” he said.
Also, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, who declared the retreat open, appreciated the synergy of all security agencies, saying FRSC efforts on Nigerians roads had saved countless lives.
Aiyedatiwa, represented by Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Corps Commander of State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, promised more collaboration to enhance the lives and property of road users in the state.
“The fear of road safety on our highways is the beginning of wisdom which has reduced the rate of crashes and for FRSC personnel to hold on to that is commendable,” he said.
Oba Adetoyinbo Aladelusi, Deji of Akure, represented by High Chief Shola Adegbomire, Osae of Akure, applauded FRSC for service delivery on highways across the country.
“We value your works and the life you are protecting on highways across the nation,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal; NSCDC Commandant, Oluyemi Ibiloye, Ondo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, and others were present. (NAN)
