The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a generator technician, Yusuf Adebayo, over the alleged assault of a seven-year-old girl in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
The incident was said to have occurred during the child’s visit to her aunt, prompting a police investigation after concerns were raised by family members.
According to the victim’s aunt, identified as Odunayo, suspicion arose after she noticed an unusual stain on the child’s clothing while preparing to return her home.
Although no immediate complaint was made at the time, the situation later escalated after the child got back to her mother.
Odunayo said she received a call from the girl’s mother the following day, informing her that the child had alleged she was assaulted within the neighbourhood.
The family subsequently revisited the area, where the victim reportedly pointed to the suspect’s residence.
The child’s mother, Toyin, said she became alarmed after her daughter complained of persistent abdominal discomfort. She noted that further checks prompted her to question the child, who then made the allegation.
The matter was thereafter reported to the police, who advised the family to seek medical attention.
The outcome of the medical examination, according to the mother, supported the allegation.
Police authorities subsequently arrested the suspect and commenced an investigation.
The family also alleged that some individuals attempted to pressure them to abandon the case, including issuing threats, a claim that has not been independently verified.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the suspect had been transferred to the Gender and Domestic Violence Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
He added that the command was continuing its inquiry into the case.
The suspect’s response could not be obtained as of the time of filing this report, as he remains in police custody.
