A tragic auto crash on Thursday evening has claimed the lives of three officials of the Students’ Union Government of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), including the Director of Sports, Comrade Solomon Nya.

The accident reportedly occurred at Odukpani, on the outskirts of Calabar, and left several other occupants injured, some of them critically.

Eyewitness accounts described the scene as horrific, with multiple victims sustaining severe injuries.

A source told Vanguard that the SUG President survived the crash but was in critical condition at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving emergency treatment.

“The SUG President is unconscious at the moment.

He is in the emergency unit of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and we are praying he pulls through,” the source said.

The source further disclosed that some of the female victims suffered grievous injuries, including limb amputations caused by the impact of the crash.

The bodies of the deceased, including Comrade Nya, were said to have been deposited at the UCTH mortuary.

“This is a very sad development. We are hopeful that the SUG President survives because his condition is very critical,” the source added.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of UNICROSS had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
