Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Bayegun Nathaniel, for allegedly abducting and killing a 16-year-old girl, Adegbaaju Florence, in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area.

The suspect was said to have collected a ransom of N500,000 from the victim’s family before allegedly killing the teenager and dumping her body in a river within the community.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development on Tuesday, noting that the arrest followed a sustained intelligence-driven operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to him, the incident occurred on April 8, 2026, at about 5pm when the victim was abducted in Ogijo.

“Upon receiving the report, the command immediately activated its anti-kidnapping response and commenced a coordinated investigation,” Babaseyi said.

He added that after weeks of intelligence gathering and strategic tracking, detectives apprehended the suspect on May 2, 2026, around 2pm.

The police spokesperson disclosed that efforts were ongoing to recover the victim’s remains for forensic examination, while investigations had been intensified to ensure the case is thoroughly prosecuted.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commiserated with the bereaved family and assured that justice would be served.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, vowing that perpetrators of violent crimes would be brought to book.
