The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced a large-scale traffic decongestion exercise in Ondo Town, Ondo State, targeting major congestion points and clearing road obstructions to improve vehicular movement.

The initiative, tagged Operation Orange Impact, was rolled out on Wednesday by the Ondo Town Unit Command as part of its community-focused intervention strategy.

Speaking during the exercise, the Unit Commander, Joseph Ajayi, said the operation formed part of the corps’ Corporate Social Responsibility drive and aligned with its 2026 strategic objective of enhancing road safety through proactive engagement and data-driven actions.

Ajayi explained that the exercise focused on identified traffic flashpoints within the town, including Sabo, Ife Garage Roundabout and Lipakala Junction, which have been prone to persistent congestion.

He noted that operatives were deployed early in the day to ease traffic flow and restore order along key road corridors.

According to him, the command had also removed abandoned and accident-damaged vehicles, as well as other obstructions, from critical areas to prevent accidents.

“These obstructions constitute serious risks to motorists, especially at night or during poor weather conditions.

We have also undertaken temporary repairs on damaged portions of the roads in collaboration with community stakeholders,” he said.

Ajayi added that the palliative repairs were aimed at reducing accidents caused by potholes pending full rehabilitation by the appropriate authorities.

He assured residents that the command would sustain similar interventions and introduce regular operations to promote safer roads and protect lives and property.

The FRSC boss also pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Works and local government authorities to enhance road management efforts.

He urged motorists to cooperate with officials during traffic control operations and cautioned against abandoning faulty vehicles on highways.

Ajayi further advised members of the public to promptly report road obstructions or emergencies to the nearest FRSC office or through its toll-free line for swift response.

Reacting to the development, a commercial driver, Tijani Olowookere, described the operation as unprecedented, noting that he had not witnessed such level of intervention in over two decades of driving in the town.

Similarly, a trader at Sabo Market, Tolani Adebusuyi, commended the corps for extending its role beyond enforcement, stating that improved traffic flow would ease business activities and reduce losses associated with delays.
