The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a fish seller and two women over alleged immoral conduct at a residential estate in the state.

The board’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Auwalu Sheshe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the suspects were apprehended during a raid at the Sheikh Muhammad Nasiru Kabara Housing Estate, popularly known as Bandirawo Housing Estate, along Daura Road in Kano.

Sheshe said the operation was led by Hafizu Garba Adakawa as part of the board’s ongoing efforts to curb alleged immoral activities across the state.

According to him, one of the suspects, Khadija Ahmad, 30, from Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State, was arrested after preliminary investigations allegedly linked her to renting out rooms in her apartment for prostitution.

He stated that the suspect reportedly told investigators that the apartment had been handed over to her by a woman who travelled to Egypt, adding that similar activities were common in the area.

The statement further revealed that operatives also arrested a 35-year-old fish seller, Ali Abubakar, alongside a 28-year-old woman identified as Fatima Abubakar from the Niger Republic, in one of the rooms during the operation.

“The suspects claimed it was their first time engaging in such an act and pleaded for forgiveness,” the statement read.

Sheshe added that the suspects had been arraigned before a Hisbah court presided over by Malam Sani Tanimu Hausawa for further legal proceedings, while the board reiterated its commitment to sanitising the state against immoral practices.
