A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has entered into a political alliance with the Allied Peoples’ Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two opposition parties formalised their partnership on Thursday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the PDP faction by Seyi Bamidele, while Oladele Oyadeji signed for the APM.
Governor Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, also appended their signatures to the pact on behalf of both parties.
The alliance is expected to strengthen collaboration between the two opposition platforms as political activities ahead of the next general election begin to gather momentum.
Speaking during the event, Makinde also declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, a move that may reshape the political landscape within the opposition camp.
Political analysts said the governor’s declaration has positioned him among the early names being considered in discussions surrounding the next presidential race.
The development comes amid ongoing realignments and coalition talks among opposition parties seeking to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
