The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has arrested a man who was allegedly discovered hiding inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
According to him, residents of the community alerted officials of the Hisbah Board around 12:15am on Monday after reportedly noticing a suspicious movement involving a man entering the woman’s house.
Kamba explained that residents suspected an illicit relationship, which they believed contravened Islamic teachings, prompting them to report the matter to the authorities.
“Upon receiving the report, officers of the Kebbi Hisbah Board were immediately deployed to the area to investigate the complaint,” he said.
He added that when operatives arrived at the residence and requested permission to conduct a search, the woman initially denied that anyone else was inside the house.
The director, however, stated that she later consented to a thorough search of the premises, during which the suspect was allegedly found concealed inside a travelling bag popularly known as a “Ghana Must-Go” bag.
Kamba said preliminary investigations indicated that the man and the married woman were allegedly involved in a romantic relationship.
According to him, both suspects reportedly admitted to the allegation during interrogation.
He disclosed that the duo would be arraigned before a Sharia court for prosecution in accordance with Islamic law.
The development comes days after the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested two women and a fish seller over an alleged attempt to engage in immoral conduct in the state.
The Kano Hisbah Board had stated that its operatives apprehended the suspects during a raid at a residence where they were allegedly preparing to engage in immoral activities.
