A 75-year-old man was rescued after falling into a deep well while attempting to retrieve a bucket in the Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident occurred at Igbo Ologun along Irawo Road on Monday evening, according to the Oyo State Fire Services Agency.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman of the agency and Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Service Reform, Moroof Akinwande, said emergency responders received a distress call at about 6:26 pm.
Akinwande explained that the elderly man reportedly fell into the well while trying to recover a fetching bucket.
He said a rescue team led by Chief Fire Superintendent Ayegbokiki Samuel was immediately mobilised to the scene with the necessary rescue equipment.
“The victim was rescued alive and later handed over to police officers from the Saki Divisional Headquarters led by ASP Yusuf Olarinoye,” the statement said.
The fire service boss urged residents to ensure wells are properly covered to prevent accidents.
He also advised members of the public to contact emergency responders promptly during distress situations and provide clear descriptions of affected locations to aid swift intervention.
