The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye, has been reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road.
Sources familiar with the incident said the council official was kidnapped on Wednesday while returning from official engagements.
Her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside, raising concerns over her safety as her whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
Attempts to reach Ogunleye through her mobile telephone line were unsuccessful, as the number was said to have been switched off.
It was gathered that the vice chairman had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat before proceeding towards Ido Ekiti when the incident occurred.
Confirming the abduction in a statement on Wednesday, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, Falade Sunday, disclosed that security agencies had been notified and were already working to secure her release.
