Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that he is still awaiting approval from the Federal Government to officially commence operations of his proposed security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” aimed at tackling criminal activities in forests across the South-West.
Igboho stated this on Monday in a statement issued in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he explained that the initiative was designed to support ongoing efforts to rid the region of kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements operating within rural communities.
According to him, all documentation and requirements necessary for the registration and approval of the security organisation had already been submitted to the appropriate federal authorities, adding that the group was only waiting for final clearance to begin operations.
He also declared his readiness to comply with the recently signed Executive Order introduced by Seyi Makinde to regulate private security organisations and allied groups operating within Oyo State.
Makinde had, on May 20, signed Executive Order 001 of 2026 to establish a legal and operational framework for vigilante groups, associations and organisations involved in security-related services across the state.
The governor explained that the directive became necessary due to increasing security threats and the growing activities of unregulated community security groups operating without proper coordination.
Speaking on the development, Igboho said the “Iru Ekun Security Network” was prepared to work closely with conventional security agencies, including the police, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to strengthen security operations in the region.
“We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security outfit and are now awaiting approval from the Federal Government, which we believe will come soon,” he said.
He added that the proposed outfit would focus on flushing out criminal gangs terrorising residents, especially those living in rural communities.
Igboho further commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as renewed commitment to improving the country’s security architecture.
He noted that the Tinubu administration appeared determined to confront insecurity across all regions of the country, particularly areas heavily affected by violent crimes.
The activist also pledged support for the Oyo State Government’s regulatory measures, stressing that peace and security remained essential for economic growth, agricultural productivity and the protection of livelihoods in rural areas.
