Two men have been sentenced to one year imprisonment each by a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilesa, Osun State, for stealing construction materials from a federal road project along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.
The convicts, identified as Damilare Oladunjoye and Azeez Ibironke, were found guilty of theft after being prosecuted by the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the suspects were apprehended during a routine night patrol by Amotekun operatives on the expressway.
Abass disclosed that the patrol team became suspicious after spotting the duo transporting iron rods concealed inside a sack on a motorcycle in the early hours of Monday.
He said the suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the security operatives but were chased and subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, the two men reportedly admitted stealing the iron rods from an ongoing federal road construction site along the highway.
The statement further revealed that the suspects confessed to carrying out similar thefts at the same project location on several occasions.
Investigations showed that the stolen materials were allegedly sold to a scrap dealer for N35,000 per transaction, with the proceeds shared between the pair.
Following the conclusion of investigations, the defendants were arraigned before Magistrate Court II, Ilesa Division, on June 2, 2026, on a three-count charge bordering on theft.
The prosecution, led by the Legal Adviser of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Oyedele Akintayo, presented the case before the court.
In his judgment, Magistrate Adedokun Ayeni convicted both defendants and sentenced them to one year imprisonment each.
The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
